What did you do this past week?

For this past week, I finished up the Integer with my partner as well as finishing up SWE’s biggest project as well. Both projects pretty much came down to the last 10 to 20 minutes, which was rather stress-inducing. I also reached out to my next partner for the Deque project, which we hope to start soon.

What’s in your way?

Currently, I need to get started on the Deque projects, which seems just as big as the Integer project. Combined with my SWE’s next project, looks like it will be another combination of working on two projects.

What will you do next week?

I hope to begin on the Deque project now and steadily work on it throughout the week. I will probably also need to review how deques work since it has been a while since I have implemented a data structure.

What was your experience of vector and deque nature?

I am familiar with vectors in the sense of other programming languages. The data structure is fairly straightforward, and even the underlying container of an array that doubles in size is simple to grasp.

However, I am not familiar with Deques, as I am going to have to review the notes and documentation about it. The use of a matrix-like container still confuses me as I am not fully sure how indexing and resizing works.

How are you doing and holding up? What’s been most helpful for you in terms of support at this time?

I have been doing excellent. After two big projects from Generic and SWE, I spent my three-day weekend relaxing and hanging out with my SO. We went grocery shopping for our four cats at home (while keeping social distancing regulations of course) and drove around Austin to get food and bubble tea. My SO has definitely been most helpful to me in terms of relieving stress and exhaustion from my busy schedule.

What made you happy this week?

I actually love just driving around the city, whether it be for errands or sightseeing. With the current situation, we cannot take long walks like we normally do. Plus, the constant 100 degrees Fahrenheit certainly does not help. I finally got to go to an Asian market and buy lots of snacks and noodles to pile up for quarantine!

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

My pick-of-the-week would have to be these little webcam covers off of Amazon. They are tiny and easy to use on any laptop, phone, or monitor. I thought they are a great product especially with all of the concerns about privacy. They are also great for Zoom or any web conference if you perhaps forget to leave the camera on.
